Az előszó szerint a művet többen írták, különböző témákban, de ,,mi mind egy szálig becsületes reformemberek vagyunk'. Az írás műfaját pamfletként definiálják a szerzők, a Camera Obscura címet pedig azért adták, mivel ,,sötét színben látunk mindent'. A kötetben több fejezet foglalkozik gróf Széchenyi Istvánnal és Kossuth Lajossal, de a ,,Sajtó' című fejezetben megemlékezik Táncsics híres művéről, a ,,Sajtószabadságról nézetei egy rabnak' című munkáról is. XIX. sz végi félvászon-védőkötésben, eredeti címlap felhasználásával
