Leo Van Der Smissen (°Dendermonde 1900 - +Brugge 1996). Schilder van landschappen, Brugse stadsgezichten, kerkinterieurs en stillevens. Opleiding aan de academies van Brugge (1913-1919), Gent (1920-1921) en Dendermonde (1923-1924). 1ste Prijs voor Schilderkunst van West-Vlaanderen. Wordt aanvankelijk beïnvloed door de School van Dendermonde. Komt daarna langzaamaan los en evolueert naar een persoonlijke stijl met een helder luministisch kleurenpalet. Wordt tot de Brugse school gerekend.
