Les expositions se multiplieront et viendront nourrir la collection avec les dons des photographes exposés, des achats auprès de collectionneurs et le transfert du fonds de l’Artothèque, contribuant à la richesse et à diversité de la collection. En parallèle, le Théâtre de la Photographie et de I’Image apporte son soutien à la jeune création et aux photographes de la région en leur confiant des commandes publiques sur Nice comme pour Michel Cœn, Anne Favret et Patrick Manez, Olivier Monge, Galith Sultan…

La notoriété grandissante du TPI attire de plus en plus de donateurs, en particulier pour les appareils photographiques allant des premières chambres photographiques de la seconde moitié du XIXème siècle, aux derniers appareils pocket des années 80. L’année 2009 est marquée par l’importante donation du cinéaste et photographe Manoutcher Nazérian qui offre à la ville de Nice 120 appareils illustrant l’histoire de la technique photographique argentique.
