U.S.A.(1980) Benjamin Banneker. Traverse. Imperforate pair. Banneker was an African-American scientist who compiled an ephemeris for almanacs in the late 18th century. He constructed a clock with works entirely of wood that kept accurate time for 50 years. He participated and later recreated entirely from memory the survey of the territory that later became Washington DC. Scott No 1804, Yvert No 1273.
