Italy, Scott #277 (Sassone #312), used(o), 1932, Dante Alighieri Literary Society Set, Francesco Petrarch ((1304-1374)), Italian scholar and poet of the early Italian Renaissance and one of the earliest humanists, his rediscovery of Cicero's letters is often credited with initiating the 14th-century Italian Renaissance and the founding of Renaissance humanism; his sonnets were admired and imitated throughout Europe during the Renaissance and became a model for later century's lyrical poetry; in his work ‘Secretum Meum’, he points out that secular achievements do not necessarily preclude an authentic relationship with God, arguing instead that God has given humans their vast intellectual and creative potential to be used to its fullest, and to avoid dogmatism; he remained a devout Catholic and did not see a conflict between realizing humanity's potential and having religious faith, though he often challenged the rigidity of church teaching when it defied the human experience; 1.25 lira, perforated: 14, photogravure printed, watermarked: crown (Scott watermark #140)(Sassone filagrana: corona), deep blue, Scott 2019 catalog value: $40.00. Slightly off-centered (very fine), classic, nearly full circular, half counter-clockwise turned, black-inked, double-rimmed, socked-on-the-nose cancellation over main image, back has a small thin over the hinge remnant, good perforations. Note: Stamp has been certified as authentic and validly cancelled in the period of use by expert Diego Carraro of Milan, Italy, but was not back-signed, nor given a certificate, due to existence of the thin. See the attached message excerpt.
Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.55 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.68 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used. If not satisfied, return the stamp to me at your own expense, and I will refund the cost, but not my postage to you. If the stamp is not as described, I will refund the cost and reimburse you for postage both ways.
