1879 (25.12.), King Luis 50r. blue optd. MADEIRA three singles on reverse of cover (two with faults) with barred numeral '45' from FUNCHAL (cds. on front) used 'Via Cape Steamer England' to Constantinople with transitmarks of London (29.12.) and Constantinople cds. (5.1.80) on front, some blemishes but a very unusual destination. Signed by the expert Pascal Scheller.
PROBABLY THE EARLIEST KNOWN REGISTERED COVER TO TURKEY.
VERY FEW EARLY REGISTERED COVERS ARE KNOWN, ANOTHER COVER FROM THE SAME RADOLINSKA CORRESPONDANCE SOLD IN THE APRIL 2001 AFINSA AUCTION (LOT 843) "1879 Funchal a Prusia registado ... muy raras las cartas certificadas en este periodo" with a starting price of 1500€.

Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
Generous viewing and storage rooms, a private auction hall, enough parking space and an underground car park are available.
